About

Hi there. My name is McBilly Sy and I’m a global citizen that has lived in a quite a number of cities. I was born in Manila, Philippines but grew up in Bacolod and later transferred to Cebu, Philippines. I’ve always enjoyed sharing insights and practical travel tips. I used to blog before in the Philippines but eventually stopped after moving to New York where I currently live.

After a recent trip to South East Asia, I was inspired to start blogging again so I’m currently starting this new blog for practical tips and advice for shooting and traveling. I enjoy photography, local food offerings and trying out cool new stuffs.

Before reviving this blog, I wanted to ask the question:

Why do you travel?

The answer to this question is very different for every individual. And there is no right or wrong answer. Just different.

Personally, my answer to that question has also changed over time. Before, I was more of the type to target the main tourists area, see what they have to offer and get my travel photo souvenir and move on (and there is absolutely nothing wrong with this). Over the years though, my taste and preference just changed.

Currently, I prefer a bit of mix of main tourists area and some low key areas where you can see and experience living like a local in that area. And try to target “cool stuffs” that I’ve never tried before.

With the advent of social media, the answer to this question has also been severely skewed with romanticizing “travel” and putting this very unrealistic expectation on how one should travel. And trust me, there are highs and lows. Sometimes it rains, sometimes you get a flat tire or maybe you miss your connecting flight. I think these experience actually add to your overall experience though. At the end of the day, what you have is a story worth sharing.

Anyway, if you’re like me who likes:

  • Traveling frugally
  • Prefers planning for my own itinerary
  • Flexible with my itinerary
  • Enjoys taking photos
  • Likes to try the local offerings
  • Prefers more outdoor and less city experience
  • A bit more on the adventurous side

Then read on. I think and hope that you can pick up a thing or two that can help your own travel and vacation planning. Feel free to reach out to me via Instagram @mcbilly. 🙂
